So between gutting a cabin and getting a new job, I took time to build this cake for my sister's baby shower. Actually it's a babies shower since she's having twins!
I used fondant for the baby blankets and a serrated knife to make the quilting pattern. For the mobile animals I used gum paste, which is really sticky so you need to grease your fingers before you work with it. I found powdered sugar helped finalize the animals and get the greasy sheen off of them. With fondant, you have to keep it moving and warm to stay pliable. Other than that, it was really easy to work with and took color really well.
